Its day one of Shipwrecked 2009, and the very first new arrivals hit the shore… First up are Mark, an 18 year old Liverpudlian 'mouth on a stick' (his words, not ours!); Sonny, a 19 year old boxer and wanna-be ladies man from London, and Hermione; a 20 year old ex-public school girl.
Just half a mile away, a second island is getting invaded by newbies… First to land is 19 year old Welsh chatter box Rosie. Joining her is 20 year old high achieving London student and self confessed feminist Hollie, and last to arrive is 22 year old sports mad Mackenzie.
The castaways have been provided with a basic food making kit but with no matches, they'll have to start a fire from scratch. Mackenzie and Hollie wasted no time getting stuck in to building their camp, but voice-over artist Rosie has other ideas about how to spend their first days in paradise… with a damn good sunbathe. Can you blame her?
Across the lagoon, Mark has made a discovery...
'That looks absolutely filthy and there's not even any poo in it yet'
For their toilet, the castaways will have to dig a 6 foot long drop… and this year they won't have the luxury of toilet roll (It's almost enough to put you off your lamb's tongue dinner).
On the other island, high achieving Hollie is trying to make a fire. Two hours later and no spark in sight, the only thing getting hot is her temper, as she finds Rosie and Mackenzie's relaxed attitude difficult to cope with.
By bedtime the fire was lit and all was well, but the next day had a surprise in store - more Shipwreckers! Mark, Sonny and Hermione got 18 year old boy mad virgin Nadejah, and 22 year old model and gym bunny Liam.
Meanwhile on the other island, Hollie, Rosie and Mackenzie welcomed London promotions girl Soodi, and 22 year old recruitment consultant Xanthi.
Introductions over, the latest arrivals reveal their news… Each tribe must pick an island leader who will be charged with laying down the island laws. Island one nominated Liam and became the Tigers and on Shark island it was chilled out Xanthi who took charge. Liam was thrown right in at the deep end when a bust-up between Sonny and Nadejah caused a major rift, giving them all a lot to think about going into the beach party.
However, in a shocking twist, the island leaders had to nominate an islander to swap to their rivals. Liam, seizing his chance to settle the Sonny-Nadejah drama, got rid of Nadejah, while Hollie left the Sharks and became a Tiger.
As the dust settles, both tribes must compose themselves to welcome the first two new arrivals. But what our islanders don't know is that the new arrivals will automatically become the leaders, and this time everyone must play by their rules.
