It's 1980 and the 'Ripper' has tyrannised Yorkshire for six long years. Senior Manchester detective Peter Hunter is brought in by the Home Office to conduct a secret review of the Ripper investigation to date.

Hunter's been involved with West Yorkshire before; he failed to complete an investigation into a shooting involving Yorkshire coppers back in 1974.

But this time Hunter's determined not to leave without getting results.

  1. What an outstanding production. Every actor with a decent Northern accent giving everything to create a studied and believable drama. Maxine Peake was, as always, stunning. If people forget that it's drama and not for real that is their problem.

  2. Playing fast and loose with history is never a wise idea, but setting a fabricated melodrama about corrupt policemen killing hoards of people during the Yorkshire Ripper murders investigation is deeply insensitive. The quality of the cast, producuction and direction is not in doubt, but this leaves a nasty taste in the mouth as well as being ridiculously overblown towards the end as the bodies pile up.

  3. when i first saw the films i was taken back by them . the way they were directed was brillant and having different directors for each one made them in my eyes 10 out of 10. the cast for them was outstanding i was just like oh my god , they all fit in to place . i read the books and there were some changes but i can not see anything wrong in doing it . channel 4 has shown me talent at its best on both sides of the camra. last thing i would like to say "Thank you for the best bit of tv i have seen for a long time"
