Gordon visits Italian bistro Charlie's in La Verne, Southern California, which was bought in 2010 by Tatiana Leiva, her mother and her sister.

Tatiana didn't actually put any money into the purchase herself, but her hard-working mother and sister did because they felt they were helping to fulfil Tatiana's dream. They even put up their houses as collateral!

Unfortunately, not only did Tatiana have no money, but also she had no idea how to run a restaurant and very soon Charlie's was in trouble.

The situation is not helped by the fact that the establishment's decor is considerably more authentically Italian than its food.

The pasta is soggy, the lasagne is a liability and the chef can't even cook a meatball despite being a long-serving member of staff.

Gordon has to do some radical rethinking to get this restaurant turned around. Can Tatiana cut her ties and fire the chef, a cherished family friend of 10 years?
