The real Victoria could hardly have been further from the dowdy and forbidding image of popular imagination.

An intensely romantic wife as well as a fierce and effective politician, this documentary highlights how Victoria both loved men and needed to be loved by them in return, not only as a queen, but as a woman in her own right. And privately, she revelled in her sexuality.

The potential scandal of some of her relationships set her on a collision course with her Royal court, family and public and at times plunged her monarchy into crisis. But it was one man, Prince Albert, who dominated her life during 21 years of marriage and the 40 years that followed his death.

  1. It has happened several times now, on different videos and this one is no better: the image gets stuck and there is no way to resume. Impossible to watch. Each time I try to relaunch I have to get through 2 to 3 ads before coming back to the same image. The sounds is fine but no more image moving. 4OD at least gave you the option to download the videos...
