Jeff is Mark's ex-work colleague. And his nemesis and once arch love-rival.
A workplace high-flier, Heaney is the macho opposite to Mark, which often causes them to clash. The fact that Jeff had a thing with Sophie, the mother of his child, just makes this friction a whole lot worse. It doesn’t help any that Mark usually comes off second best (although second is a pretty high ranking by his usual standards).
Jeff is a bully who seeks to enrich his life by picking on others. Mark does occasionally get the better of him, and never fails to milk the gloat that inevitably follows.
