Middle-aged Teresa (Margarethe Tiesel) is a single mum who has a teenage daughter and works with people with mental disabilities. Intent on briefly escaping life's pressures, she packs her daughter off to summer camp and boards a plane for a holiday in Kenya.
Once beside the azure Indian Ocean, Teresa joins other European women at the resort in falling in to a series of ultimately money-based liaisons with the much younger, leaner men who loiter just beyond her hotel's rigidly demarcated boundaries.
As well as unflinchingly portraying their sexual encounters, Seidl also probes how the unsettling, and often humiliating, exploitation affects both the African men and their European 'sugar mamas'.
In German, English and Swahili, with English subtitles.
