Series 1 Summary
Nigel Slater, the author of several critically acclaimed and highly popular books, hosts his first television series. Nigel's theory is that it is possible to make a meal in the time it takes a ready meal to heat up or order a home delivery pizza. Each of the eight programmes devotes itself to one ingredient.
Episode 1 - Chicken
This episode is devoted to chicken. Nigella Lawson helps find the perfect roast bird.
Episode 2 - Potatoes
This episode is devoted to potatoes. Nigel is passionate about the humble spud. Recipes include a zingy fish and chip salad and Nigel's secret recipe for a magic chip butty.
Episode 3 - Ice Cream
Nigel creates hedonistic recipes, from ice scream sundae with chocolate sauce to caramelised apples and praline ice cream. Nigella Lawson shows Nigel how easy it is to make fresh fig ice cream.
Episode 4 - Garlic
Garlic is another of Nigel's passions and he eats a roast chicken with 40 cloves of garlic cooked by chef Alastair Little
Episode 5 - Cheese
Nigel Slater devotes a whole episode to cheese, concentrating on soft varieties
Episode 6 - Chocolate
Nigel creates a series of wicked and decadent but divine deserts, including a fudgy, densely flavoured espresso cake and chocolate truffles
Episode 7 - Sausages
Real food means big flavoured, unpretentious cooking: bold food made from good ingredients. In this episode, Nigel uses sausages in conventional recipes as well as a basis for a pasta sauce.
