Joy's guilty feelings over Earl taking the rap for a crime she committed suddenly evaporate after she sees an friend during visiting hours: Frank.
Years ago, having been kicked out by their dad, Earl and Randy were homeless until they spotted a rental opportunity in a trailer park - sub-letting Frank's kitchen.
With money tight they planned a big robbery but Earl got cold feet and ended up hammered in the Crab Shack the night before the job, which is where a desperate and heavily pregnant Joy made her move - turning Earl's shotgun robbery into a shotgun wedding. Meanwhile, Frank got banged up.
So if Joy hadn't dragged Earl off to Vegas on honeymoon he'd have been serving a 20 year sentence for armed robbery - like Frank - rather than the two years for her crime. So if anything, Earl owes her...
