Jailbird Earl has nobody to protect him - he's too white to join the Latino and Black gangs, and not white enough to join the albino gang. After several abortive attempts to join the White Supremacists he bumps into an old friend, Sonny, who he used to play beer can tag with on the outside.
Sonny shows him the way to survive in prison is to become invisible. So with Joy looking after Randy on the outside, Earl begins to believe he can make it on the inside, until Sonny rats him out to another old friend, Glenn Shipley.
Glen used to be a Camden County Boy Scout until Earl tricked him into a spot of breaking and entering, starting a spiral of crime that has led to him becoming the undisputed prison psycho. All Earl needs to do now is steer clear of Glenn, but Karma has other ideas...
