Ethan Suplee as Randy

Wednesday 14 January 2009

Interview with Ethan Suplee, who plays Randy.

What is it about your character that you like or dislike?
There's not really anything that I dislike about him. I like that he's just an innocent guy and that some of the things I get to say or do through him, I wouldn't be able to because they would be in poor taste if he wasn't kind of an innocent guy. It makes it fun - I can make jokes that aren't really appropriate but because he's not saying them from a place of malice, it's kind of OK.

Why doesn't Randy have a list of his own?
During Season One as a joke, I made up a list and gave it to the Executive Producers. It had five things on it. Four of them were very small and ridiculous. The fifth, I think, was something huge - like I felt responsible for some war somewhere. In Randy's mind he realised that one thing he did led to that war.

What about in your own life?
Many, many things but nothing I'm actively trying to make up for every day. I am trying to be a better person, now that I have kids and see that everything that I do is basically mimicked by them.

Do you like watching a series like this on DVD?
Yeah! With the serialised series, you get to the end of the week and there's this big thing and you must watch the next week. We're not quite doing that, but I think it will be more interesting to watch episode to episode when there are different stories that are attached - rather than just the list. You can watch the entire segment of my fling with Catalina or all the episodes that deal with Joy going through her legal troubles and stuff like that. I think that will be more fun to view on DVDs.

Do you have a favorite episode?
I still like Randy's Touchdown from the first season, and from the second series I like the episode with Amy Sedaris, Larceny of a Kitty-Cat. I hate cats. But I liked that episode a lot!
