What possesses grown women to spend hundreds, and sometimes thousands, of pounds on a doll?

My Fake Baby explores the world of 'reborns' - lifelike baby dolls - and the women who buy them, delving into an extraordinary pursuit that, although bizarre to some, brings great rewards to the women involved.

Some of the dolls have beating hearts, others have tiny veins and even milk spots. Loved like real babies, they're taken for walks, cuddled and even have their nappies changed.

Doll designer Jaime - a mother of four - fulfils the dreams of other women by engineering babies to their specifications in her front room. Adoptive 'mums' include women with grown-up children, grandmothers living away from their grandchildren and women who have left it too late to have their own babies.

  2. Watched this programme over a year at was a great documentary. Documentary's are an insight into peoples life & this hit the nail on the head.. it was very diferent & interesting. It may seem strange but its only the same as when you collect something. You find it an achievement & wanted to look after you're collection. On the other hand women are born to nuture & its not something that passes away with age so I can see why these ladies seek refuge in the pretty looking dolls. I am a very creative person & would look to have the opportunity in learning how to creat these master pieces.. Good luck to all on the show & well done to channel 4 showing something different rather than more cooking programmes.... Thank you Sabrina

  3. My name is Julie Molloy, I live in Michigan. I am a doll sculpting artist and a reborner. I have LOVED baby dolls all of my life! I started sculpting in the late 90's and became a sculpting artist for a couple of large doll companies in 2001. I have since found my own company to produce my vinyls and have recently took formal training on mold making and casting in Silicone. I am also working wiht a few medical companies providing training mannequins.

  18. i think this prog was gr8.i reborn these dolls/babies to sell and i think not all ppl who buy these dolls/babies are like the ppl shown in this program,most just like then to collect,look at,give a cuddle to once in a while.

  24. well i personally think that this is sick and if you cant or are unable to have arealy baby then you shouldnt have one at all it comes across as weird and sick, its as if it were an obsession so some of the people in this documentary. Need to get a test tube baby and not a dolly.
