Mum's Gone Gay

Mum's Gone Gay

Watch this episode now on 4oD Louise is upset

Drama focusing on what happens to a family when the mother comes out as gay. The narrative unfolds over the course of two weeks, as they react to the news of their mother's homosexuality

Central to the story is the experience of the 16-year-old daughter, following her journey from initial feelings of shock, anger and disgust, to a greater acceptance through her changing relationship with her family and teenage peers.

Set in suburban middle England, the programme deals with gay issues away from the clichés of the gay 'scene' by seeing them within a context of everyday family life.

  1. As the daughter of a lesbian I found this very realistic and inspiring to those who don't understand or accept homosexuality. I hope that it has changed peoples views for the better. My mother being gay helped alot of classmates throughout my school and college life. They accepted it after the initial mick taking. This programme shows that Homosexuality is a big part of society and that it isn't wrong.

  2. Very moving and realistic. As a lesbian step-mum to my partner's daughter I think this is very realistic. Kids are cruel - fact, but kids heal and as long as love is shown to them, they adapt, even though society will always find it more difficult. A great Programme.

  3. I thought this was a good programme. Okay, I did feel sorry for the kids a little bit but you cant help who you fall in love with. She can still be a good mum to them. I think good on her for being a lesbian and being a good mum (although the kids didnt approve at first). It might be 'boohoo' to the husband and maybe she should of told him right from the start that she was a lesbian. But then if shes not happy being with him then its her choice to make. The kids came around to the idea in the end which was good. I think they should bring out more programmes like this. P.s. It doesnt matter what time of day its on.
