Mummy's War

Mummy's War

Margaret Thatcher's daughter - journalist Carol - confronts her mother's legacy in a highly personal journey into history with her own still vivid memories of the Falklands War.

On reaching the islands and later Buenos Aires, she discovers that the fault lines of the ten-week war are still extremely active. She finds herself unprepared for the islanders' fervent determination to repel Argentina's continuing claims to the islands by whatever means necessary while in Argentina she is met at the airport by protesting Argentine army veterans who want her thrown out of the country as the daughter of an alleged war criminal.

Both sets of veterans share one thing in common: for them the war is not over. For Argentines the Malvinas are theirs; for the islanders the struggle to remain British is what defines them and gives them strength.
