The first three painters in Matt's Old Masters - Titian, Rubens and Velazquez - stand for the highest that painting can go. The last one - our own William Hogarth - didn't weigh in quite so heavily. He's usually considered to be an early cartoonist, a satirist who attacked social hypocrisy, and whose medium was line not so much brush strokes. But in the last episode of the series Matthew concentrates on Hogarth's paintings rather than his etchings.
