For some female holidaymakers it's not just sun, sea and sand they seek but love, affection, male companionship, and on occasion, even sex.
Each year thousands of Brits take the ten-hour flight to the Caribbean's most popular tourist destination: the Dominican Republic. The country's budget resorts make it a popular choice with families, but for an increasing number of British women the island has a different appeal.
It's easy for women of all ages, shapes and sizes to have relationships with the young, handsome men who live and work on the island. The story that emerges is about love and loneliness across gender and cultural divides.
Two very modern Shirley Valentines tell their stories of holiday romances with a difference. They include Barbara, 67, who is dating a 30-year-old Dominican called Luis. Despite being burned in the past, Barbara thinks Luis is different: 'He never stops looking into my eyes and tells me he loves me... and all the things you want to hear, but, I can't help feeling this one's genuine.'
