Madeleine Was Here

Madeleine Was Here

Gerry McCann walking down some steps in Portugal

How do the McCanns deal with the pain of not knowing what has happened to their daughter? And how do they try to create a normal life for the sake of Madeleine's brother and sister, four-year-old twins Sean and Amelie?

With the search now shelved by the Portuguese police - and no officers in Portugal or the UK dedicated to the case - the investigators (former police officers from the UK) speak about their interest in a series of important sightings in and around the Ocean Club complex, Praia da Luz, in the days leading up to May 3rd 2007.

For the first time, Gerry McCann returns to Apartment 5a of the Ocean Club complex, where he last saw his daughter. Also returning to Portugal are Jane Tanner and Matthew Oldfield, two friends from the group known as the 'Tapas 7', who were on holiday with the McCanns at the time.

The documentary reconstructs events surrounding Madeleine's disappearance using actors and based on testimony given to the Portuguese police as part of their investigations.

  2. I also agree with Cristina Monte and Jackie Leasure regarding not being able to view the video's outside the country. I live in Norway and can not understand why this video isn't shown to everybody that wants to see! I hope this video/documentary will be shown in most countries, to help the search to find this little girl - Madeleine.

  3. I agree with Cristina Monte regarding not being able to view the video's outside the country or from our location. I live in North America and cannot access the reconstruction clips. I am hoping Madeleine Was Here will be shown in the US.

  4. Sorry I could not see the programme as I live at South America and your website does not allow people from "other countries" to have access to the corresponding video. You should know that by doing that you are not fully helping the search to find Maddie!!!! By now, from all that has been reported by the media and by the Mc Cann the little Maddie can be anywere in this world. And we all, normal loving and caring human beings, do are willing to help her to be found!. Hope you soon are able to release that information to be seen by people from all over the world!and that Maddie is soon returned safe to her family!

  5. If this guy hung around for days did he never get caught on cctv, or is he in the background in somebodys holiday photos, I wonder did he plan his route away from the building as to avoid the cctv cams there must have been some around on hotels appartment receptions, shops have them looking onto the street, where would a route take you away from the building if you did avoid cctv, just a guess and obviously the police been through all this. I am hoping she is found soon and don't think the parents are to blame.

  7. After watching this documentary, I have come to the conclusion that Madeleine was stolen to order, to fullfil the needs of a childless person/couple. I am certain that she will surface one day, feeling a loved, happy and confident individual, and totally unaware of the heartache that surrounds her disapearance. The Natascha Kampusch case is a prime example of someone being abducted as a child, yet loving their abductor. Maddie will be found one day. Good luck Kate and Jerry. XXX

  8. This documentary did not aim to answer your questions or the questions of anybody in the UK. It was simply a matter of getting Madeleine on everyone's mind again, in the hope of finding her at long last. The McCanns and their detectives, and indeed the Police Officers from Portugal, are not accountable to you or anybody else. The parents have been proven innocent and just want to find their daughter.

  9. I am confused what happened to the actress employed to play Kate. What happened to the reconstruction? Why were the evidence of the dogs not mentioned, why was no Police Officer who worked on the case interviewed. How did the abductor get in and out of the apartment? This programme was not a reconstruction by any stretch of the imagination. As for where people were that night I cannot believe that the McCanns Dectective said it didn't matter where they were standing, of course it does. Jez Wilkins according to his statement crossed the road to talk to Gerry, it was not Gerry who crossed the road. The window and shutters were no opened, the only finger print on the window belonged to Kate McCann on the inside. This programme answered none of the question that many in the UK have been asking for 2 years now. Its time for the McCanns to get the British Police to investigate the disappearence of their daughter, not retired Dectectives.

  11. One could not help but be moved by this raw and emotional replay of sutch a tragic event which happened nearly two years ago. We feel sure that Madeleine is still alive out there somewhere and that someone knows where she is but is keeping quiet. Child abduction still goes on in parts of Europe, fed by families who desperately want children and will pay any price to get them. This was definately a planned abduction but I think that is was NOT organised by a professional gang, but by a determined individual who is willing to take chances. Someone who possibly lives a rural existance in a close nit community with rudimentory social medical care available, maybe not even from the country of abduction. One day Madeleine will come back into the lime light. She will not forget her real pearents. Lets hope that she is not effected too much by this ordeal any more than her pearents are. We will pray for her and keep a yellow ribbon on our gate for her. Don't ever give up hope of finding her. The longer this continues, the more chance that someone will come forward with information. Everyone in the World must know about this. Greed will finally catch the perpetrator. Love will triumph in the end over evil.

What is important is the search continues and people stop hounding the family all over the net. They have enought to worry about trying to find Madeleine. Fully supporting all tha family

  14. i hope maddie gets found, it must be sooo hard for her family, it is now two years she has been missing. My brother said she is probably dead by now but i disagree. i think that someone has her and wants to pass her off as their child. I have this feeling that she is alive and due to the age-progression photo i think that se might be found by the end of this year. hopefully....

  17. Having watched the programme and shared the anguish that many people must feel for the McCanns, I admire the way they remain so positive and determined in their effort to find Madeleine. I can only hope that one day there will be a breakthrough and at least they will find the truth of what has happened to her. The worst thing must be not knowing. I wish them all the luck in their latest campaign. Hopefully it will touch someone's concience and heart enough to provide vital information.

  18. My heart goes out to the McCanns and am impressed by the tenacity of their search for Madeleine, I hope and pray she will be returned to them safe. I am disgusted at the reactions of some Portuguese, the damaged Madeleine poster was shocking and residents shouting at Gerry in the street was awful. I for one, will never visit Portugal ever again and if Portugues tourist trade is affected. then so be it!
