True Stories presents Kasim Abid's award winning portrait of everyday life in war-ravaged Baghdad. Focusing on one family's fight to survive, Abid's film mirrors Iraqi hopes and fears.
What a lovely, caring extended family - alas of the kind now almost non-existent here in the UK. If only the Americans and British had withdrawn after Saddam was apprehended, leaving Iraqis to rebuild their own society, it's unlikely extremist intervention in splitting communities, the killing and destruction would have happened. Many protesters who were against invading Iraq believed it to be all about the oil deposits and power of control - seems they were right. It was arrogant of the Americans and Europeans to believe they could teach the Iraqi people anything about 'civilisation' when it was they who uprooted and destroyed hundreds of American Indian tribes. Didn't they know that the cradle of civilisation started in Iraq, for heavens sake? I was totally moved and absorbed in the daily lives of this family and wish them all and everyone in Iraq peace and prosperity, hoping they don't have to wait much longer, as they have suffered enough.
Please can you show this again or make it available online. I watched the beginning and was very moved but messed up the VCR. As wide an audience as possible should have the opportunity to see how the lives of people in Iraq continue to be disrupted and devastated in the aftermath of the invasion and occupation of their country.
This is the most important documentary of a middle class family coping with the sort of upheaval we can only have nightmares about. It was warm, informative, sensitive and greatly moving. I read in your listing that this is an 'award winning documentary'. I hope it wins every award going - I hope it is shown to the widest audience possible so that the world can see the heartbreaking state of affairs that exists. One of the more pertinent remarks from one of the young female family as she tried to work by the light of oil lamps ' here we are, a country with the second largest oil deposits in the world living like this.' I want more of this - I want to see how the family survives and adapts in the coming years. I want to know everything about their lives. ,,, It was a masterpiece! Plaudits to all concerned and to marvellous Channel 4 which has brought us so much information. We have many Iraqi refugees living in Portsmouth - this documentary showed better than any previous reports the appalling stress-filled lives they have escaped from. i
although it was a video diary but nevertheless an extremely moving film. It beggars belief that we don't here much about organised killings of so many Iraqi professionals. Media headlines focuses only on the negative failure of the war rather than the stories of individuals who were affected by the conflict.
Hi, I am interested in watching the documentary 'Life After the Fall' about Baghdad online, is there any way I can watch it tomorrow live online? Appreciate your help
