Life After People

Life After People

Lion in the White House

Exploring the possibilities for future life and how our planet would continue without us. The predictions of leading experts in fields such as biology, engineering and geology are stunningly illustrated using feature film quality visual effects.

The programme follows the timeline after our departure, from the immediate effects on electricity and our house pets, right through to thousands of years from now when there are only traces of human civilisation left.

Cities such as New York are overrun by plants and Central Park blooms into forest. Whole ecosystems exist in skyscrapers with cats at the top of their high altitude food chains. London is defenceless against the North Sea and is submerged under water within 25 years.

It seems likely most remnants of our civilisation will vanish within a few thousand years. Ironically, our best hopes for the most impressive man-made structures may lie with the oldest monuments to date...
