Abigail and John Adams looking deep in conversation

Wednesday 17 December 2008

This epic seven-part mini-series focuses on the early history of the United States and the life story of John Adams, one of the most influential of the men who led the American Revolution, who went on to be elected the country’s first Vice President and second President.

Based on the Pulitzer-prize winning book, John Adams charts the life of this remarkable historical figure.

The historical drama tells the story of the foundation of America, as Adams authors the Declaration of Independence, and explores the extraordinary relationship between Adams and his wife of 54 years, Abigail, a partnership regarded as one of the most moving love stories in American history.

Executive produced by Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman with an all-star cast including Tom Wilkinson (Girl with a Pearl Earring, Batman Begins), Oscar-nominated Laura Linney (The Savages, Kinsey), Rufus Sewell (The Illusionist, A Knight’s Tale) with the lead played by Paul Giamatti (Sideways, Cinderella Man), John Adams is both a biopic of this great historical figure and the story of the first 50 years of the United States.

This series was shown on More4 in autumn 2008.
