  1. i have just watched kelly on 4od, missed it first time round as i was in hospital having 2 lumposcomys and lymph glands removed.thought i would be given the all clear, but no, advised to have a masectomy,so disappointed and frightened!! kelly you have given me food for thought and helped me to decide this is the right thing to do, like you i have had chemo and my hair is just growing back, you certainly do not feel attractive in any way shape or form. but you have to look long term this is just one chapter in your life, lots more to come!!!!! thank you

  3. I have just watched your programme for the first time on Kelly and I was very moved by it. 24 years ago I had major surgery for cervical cancer. I never had a problem with always feeling feminine either before or after the operation, but I did come across other women who said they felt "less than a woman" after surgery. I think this is so sad - I had a scar along the bikini line, but many of the women had large scars running down from their navel. I realise that todays surgery is often keyhole, so the scars aren't so bad, but back then we all ended up with large scars. In some women it also had something to do with the fact that their child-bearing days were over. I just thought this might interest you as there may be lots of women out there in their 50s/60s who still have major hang ups about their body.

  4. I watched Kelly's episode just after I was diagnosed myself with breast cancer, I too had a mastectomy then chemo it gave me hope. It was great to see how she is now, just wish Gok was there to give others the same uplift as he did with Kelly. I myself am still stuck at the beginning, after a reconstruction failed and being left disfiguired, leaving me wearing the same as Kelly, baggy jumpers etc with no selfconfidence and the same fear as Kelly had that she thought everybody knew about having a mastectomy, so hardly ever leaving the house. I sat there watching in tears, as she was able to look at it in the way that I wish I could. Just wish there was more Gok's to go around to give back the confidence to others as he did with Kelly. Well done to Gok for doing this programme.

  5. Last night I watched Gok and Kelly.I really enjoy all of Gok's programmes but nearly didn't watched last night as I am feeling very emotionally fragile at the moment. 2 weeks ago I had a malignant melanoma removed from low down on my right calf and spent 8 days in hospital. At the moment I am on crutches. In order to ensure that the surgeon had got it all he took an extra large safety margin away and this has left me with a hole about the circumference of a small grapefruit which goes down deep into the leg (I can see the outline of muscle and bone underneath my skingraft). I am told there will always be a large deep dent in my leg. Although I am 58 I take good care of myself - don't look my age, dress trendily and take time with my make up. I am in the healthy weight range, swim for a non-stop hour twice a week and play competitive table tennis in the local league (in addition to walking my dog and paddling my kayak). I spend a lot of time therefore either in shorts or swimsiut and when I go out in the evenings I like to wear shortish skirts and heels. My legs have always been my best feature. I know that in winter it will be easy to cover up with opague tights and trousers but what can I do about the rest of the year? I had thought about making broad straps, in various materials, decorative ribbons etc. which I could co-ordinate with my outfits. Colourful, funky or plain pretty and maybe something like black velvet with a diamante embellishment for parties. My daughter tells me that I will look totally naff and like 'a hooker' or someone into bondage. What does Gok think and has he any suggestions? I loved the way Kelly's confidence was restored and admire that she is now helping the breatcare campaign by modelling and by being an ambassador. To hear her say that she now accepts and loves her disfigurement because it saved her life helped me a lot. There must be many thousands of ladies like me however who have disfigurements that are not so easy to disguise. Perhaps Gok could cover some of these in a future programme. I heard someone say recently 'Gok, you either love him or hate him'. I love him and can see that he is just the sort of best friend every girl needs. I don't know how you decide who will get a reply as you must get thousands of emails. But I REALLY would be sooooooo grateful for any suggestions on how to deal with mo own disfigurement. Many thanks Cordelia

  6. I have recently had a double mastectomy and am still struggling to find the best underwear. there isn't anywhere in the Midlands to go to be fitted.I don't yet feel up to going to London to the Nicola Jane shop that i think Gok used. I would be interested to find out where Kelly had her bra made to measure with padding so that she could wear strapless tops.It was wonderful to watch the programme and see Kelly transformed. I has given me the confidence that I can look good again, especially for my daughter's wedding next summer.
