How did you feel before you met Gok?
Insignificant. Little old blind woman. Hiding behind my guide dog.
Why did you feel like this?
Over time the effort of bothering to look good just became too much. Looking good takes time and thought, and when your head is full of how to manage your disability and family on a day to day basis your own looks take second place. Eventually, you forget all about how it is to feel good about yourself. Not seeing myself in mirrors meant that it was even easier to forget all about me!
How do you feel about your body now?
Fantastic! Having Gok draw my attention back to myself has been a revelation!
What has been the biggest change for you during this experience?
Realising that I am gorgeous! Sounds conceited but it's true!
What would be your advice to other men and women out there who may be in a similar situation to yours?
Believe in yourself. We are all gorgeous but it just takes a little effort to promote our very best bits and learn how to disguise the bits we're not so keen on.
What has been the biggest challenge for you during this experience?
Not allowing my old beliefs to bring me back down to the low self-esteem I suffered before I met Gok! Also, curbing my impatience with the process. Finally, allowing myself to believe that what Gok said is actually true!
How has the experience affected your confidence?
Massively, in the most positive of directions!
What are your top three style tips?
Like all good, beautiful and successful buildings - the foundations are paramount! Use good underwear that forms the basis of all that goes on top.
Always wear clothing that you really like. Otherwise it's difficult to feel good in it. Choose what really hits your gut instinct. Don't listen to other people if you truly believe that you look good then buy it and wear it.
Wear what is in your wardrobe. I spent years and a hell of a lot of money on really expensive clothes that stayed in the wardrobe waiting for that 'special occasion'. Consequently, a lot of money's worth sits there making your wardrobe look fantastic but you don't! I spent such a lot of time wearing old clothes to keep my nice stuff for that rainy day which never arrives. Ridiculous. I think one of the biggest lessons I have learnt from Gok is if you've got it then bloody well wear it! It's better to be over-dressed than under-dressed. Local pub for a quick beer and you look like Posh Spice? Fantastic!
What is your favourite item of clothing or accessory?
My little leather jacket with the frilly front. My knee-high black leather boots. Big, out-there necklaces.
