Gok Wan

Saturday 07 November 2009

Want to find out what the key on-trend pieces are this autumn? Then watch the second part of our video interview with the gorgeous Gok.

Gok also dishes the dirt on who he thinks is the most stylish, what every woman should have in her wardrobe (!), and - as it's party season - what to do if you turn up to an event wearing the same outfit as someone else...

  2. Gok, I love you programme and your efforts to improve the body/self esteem of women today. Have you check ed out the Pink Stinks site - www.pinkstinks.co.uk - I think they have some very valid points to make concerning the issue as well. I am sure they would have somehting to add to your campaign. Following on from Phil 31/10/2009 below - I am disabled and agree that it would be great if you could pay some attention to us. In my case, clothes need to look good when I am seated rather than up and about. I use a walking stick as a necessity rather than an accessory and posture suffers for this. I lack strength and find doing hair impossible so really simple hair dos that need little or no maintenance would help. I, and I am certain many other women with disabilities/illness, have lost my health, my physical abilities, my looks, my social world, my career and, needless to say, my self esteem. Anything Gok could do to offer guidance and help to women in my position would be wonderful. Gok, whether you are able to help or not I would like to thank you for all you are doing to help raise the awareness of women and girls that it is not necessary to conform to the stereotypes of thinness and beauty that are so pervasive in our culture and in the media, in order to be considered beautiful, and that our bodies should be celebrated no matter what size or shape they are.

  4. I LOVE MY GOK!! You are such an inspiration to us women. My body confidence isn't great but after watching your show I always feel better about myself. I have learned not to look at myself with goggle glasses on and to do the same with other women. So what if we aren't all a size 10, who cares about cellulite. Take care of yourself and see the inner beauty we have and focus on our good points externally and we not only feel like different people we look at other people differently too. Everyone I talk to praises Gok, we all think you are fabulous and incredibly sincere!! Body confidence when I was growing up was taught to me by my immediate family and we all have issues even though I learned to love my red hair and I think it's great to change the community locally and nationally as this will decrease the pressure the next generation will feel. However, if that doesn't work I'd happily take an artist around with me to airbrush out those extra pounds lol. Great work Gok, you really are a living angel xxxxxx

  5. The thing i love about the show is Gok is so positive and the women grow to love themselves. And when you smile and laugh more and walk with confidence your beauty shines through. i love to see how happy the women are at the end of the show, and they didn't have to change physically !

  6. gok your show is great my wife and i watch every week I have found that it helps my wife to think about her self but she is partially disabled, have you thought of doing a show of which will help people such as my wife and many others like her.It would be great for her to see that she is not an odd ball but is a real woman people seem to think that because you are dissabled that life does not exist for the like of her and many others like her. Sorry to go on like that but having watched your shows I feel that you would have somthing to say about it and no doubt somthing very good up your sleeves to make a great show of this subject. Many thanks for the chance to write this and I hope your show helps many women that feel as though they dont exist.

  9. I have a "normal" sized daughter, age 11, who now thinks she is fat because all the clothing manufacturers make their goods for "skinnies". The arms, the tummy, the legs are always too tight on her and we always end up buying up to 3 sizes bigger for her (which results in it being too long and not fitting properly elsewhere). PLEASE, PLEASE GOK, raise this issue. Children aged 11 are getting inferiority complexes and singled out for being fat when they are not. It is outrageous!!!

  10. I am a great fan of 'How to Look Good Naked' and alongisde Shona with her 'Teenage Body Confidence' campaign, I think you're doing an amazing job at improving people's self esteem and correcting the industry's ideal of perfection! I also think that retailers should be doing more to support this. As a final year student at London College of Fashion, I have decided to produce a marketing campaign to introduce a broader size range of models to an online fashion retailer. I am currently collecting research to support this, if you could complete the below questionnaire it would be extremely useful. There are only 10 questions, so it won't take long. http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=P6M3UTyitsbfudgiKfrPBg_3d_3d Thanks everyone!
