The last time we saw Lily was at the huge school explosion, which Hollyoaks did brilliantly. However, Diane, Misbah and Leela also found out about the girls self-harming, which Lily found so humiliating and shameful. Lily decided to give her cutting kit to Diane where she swore to her family and Prince that she would never do it again. Unfortunately it’s not as easy for Lily, so at the minute she is struggling to keep her promise and hide her secret.
Lily is disappointed when Diane asks her to help out at Nightingales restaurant as she’d rather be studying or trying to catch up with Prince. With Diane asking her to do ten things at once she starts getting stressed and frustrated with herself. She can’t handle the pressure and drops all of the plates over the restaurant floor. She thinks she can deal with it, but she is too anxious and desperate to hurt herself again and release all of the chaos in her head. Diane unknowingly nearly catches Lily.
The school explosion was terrifying for Lily, especially after going through the traumatic car crash, which was one of the triggers to her self-harming. I think Lily just feels lucky that she was able to get out alive and safe, especially with the help from Prince. When she saw Prince at the end of that ladder I think that’s what put her at ease and made everything okay again. At the time of the explosion Lily was mainly worried about Yasmine telling everyone about her secret, so maybe the panic and pressure of that didn’t help her situation.
At the minute Lily wants everything to work out with her and Prince, but unknown to him she is breaking her promise and still hurting herself. Prince is always there to put a smile on her face and helps take her mind away from all her problems.
Lily is so excited when she finds out that Prince has a surprise for her. She finds it so romantic when she sees how much effort he’s put in and when he gets down on one knee she is so overwhelmed and shocked. When Prince first mentioned that he wanted to marry her at the school explosion she thought he was joking!
Deep down I think she knows she’s too young, but she can’t help but fall for him, even though they are the complete opposites of each other! She starts to realise that she really does love him and doesn’t want to ruin things between them.
Lily definitely wouldn’t want an over the top ‘McQueen’ wedding! She’d want a drama free wedding, with just her closest family and friends there and her and her mum’s favourite songs played. She wouldn’t want anything too big that draws too much attention to herself and go for the vintage look for her wedding dress.
Lily is the type of person who likes to make her own mind up about things, so she’s definitely not going to listen to her Auntie Diane’s advice too easily! I think she just wants to prove to everyone that he is a nice boy and not the scally everyone sees him as. He’s made mistakes, but so has Lily and she’s one for giving people second chances.
Before Lily gets the chance to respond to Prince’s proposal, Diane interrupts it and tries to stop it from happening. Prince gets distracted when he notices blood on Lily’s hand and the realisation starts to dawn on everyone. She tries her best to come up with an excuse and desperately tries to cover the fact that she is still harming herself, but is left crushed and humiliated when nobody believes her. She hates herself for it, but she needs Prince to help her get through it.
The scene after the proposal was one of my favourite scenes to film, because it was so real and intense to film! It’s with Alex (Diane), Nick (Tony) and Ross (Scott) where Diane goes a bit crazy and tries to unscrew the hinges from Lily’s bedroom door so she can constantly keep an eye on her. Lily isn’t in a good place with the thought of losing Prince again and she can’t understand why Diane is reacting the way she is. She’s emotional and feels lost and faints in her bedroom. When she is rushed into hospital she is distraught when she finds out she has Sepsis, which is the result of hurting herself with dirty objects.
It is extremely important to show the dangerous consequences of self-harm, because our younger audience will hopefully watch it and realise how life threatening it can be. We constantly want to bring awareness and encourage people not to do it, seek help and follow the beginning of Lily’s recovery.
I hope Lily can fully recover from self-harming and get things back on track with her and Prince. She’s had enough drama for a year, so I’d like her to enjoy herself. She deserves to be happy!
My highlights have been working with Alex, Nick and Ross. They are the best people to work with. We work so hard, but always manage to enjoy ourselves on set at the same time. Storyline-wise, I have definitely enjoyed doing the big school explosion and the chance to work more with the younger group of us. It was like doing a mini action film, I loved it!
