Hairy Women

Hairy Women

Watch this episode now on 4oD A woman plucks her upper lip

Lifting the lid for the first time on the secrets of female body hair, Hairy Women illustrates where women have it, how they remove it and, most importantly, why it is often seen as so important to appear hairless.

Peta grows all her body hair back as an experiment during the film, becoming increasingly self-conscious and miserable along the way. The other featured women talk about how they painstakingly and often painfully remove their body hair, and reveal the extent to which their daily lives and routines are affected by and organised around the hair removing procedure.

  1. I watched this to see if there are any historical, cultural and anthropological reasons why our society is so obsessed by this idea of hairless women. However, the programme is just a window into a bunch of obsessed and insecure women saying they do it because everyone does it and they need to fit in?! The men say the woman do it (hair removal) because they want to, on one hand, then say they would not like to be with a woman who didn't.. None of the people interviewed actually question why society deems this neccessary. No real information about the origins or causes of this weird social habit here at all.

  3. Hi Amber I had problems with very dark and thick facial hair on my upper lip, chin and neck, and I made it worse for myself my waxing, plucking and shaving it. If you have ever done any of these things to the affected areas, laser hair removal will take longer to work and you may need up to 9 treatments. Mine was very thick and coarse - I have so far had 6 laser treatments and one electrolysis, and most of mine has now gone. Laser treatment will work for you, but you must stick at it. It may seem like a lot of money to be spending, especially as you won't necessarily see the results straight away, but when it is finally all gone, it is the best feeling ever, and you'll realise what a fantastic investment it really is. My tips are - Try and go somewhere recommended by a friend, or magazine, if you decide to try it again - Don't pick or pluck the regrowing hair. Get a good exfoliater and use it morning and night. Shave in the morning, use single-use disposable razors to avoid rashes, as get some men's shaving foam. It might seem embarrassing but no-one has to know! - Use loads of moisturiser, morning and night. It really is worth another go at laser removal - You will feel so much better about yourself, and don't you deserve it?! I hope this has helped!

I agree with the other posts why advertise this and NOT show the date in which it will be broadcasted! very annoying
