Cast of Green Wing

Wednesday 10 December 2008

The critically-acclaimed Green Wing is set in the surreal East Hampton Hospital.

From the award-winning team behind Smack the Pony, this genre-defying comedy proved medical issues needn’t have any relevance in a hospital setting. Part surreal soap, part comedy drama, Green Wing’s characters made a considerable mess whatever they were doing.

The ensemble cast created brilliantly observed, sophisticated mayhem. Tamsin Greig played the idiosyncratic Dr. Caroline Todd; Julian Rhind-Tutt, the fop-haired, wise-cracking heartthrob Dr MaCartney; Steve Mangan the lustful love god Guy Secretan; Mark Heap the stammering, neurotic Dr Alan Statham; Pippa Haywood the tyrannical, age-obsessed Joanna Clore; Michelle Gomez the terrifyingly unpredictable staff liaison officer Sue White; Karl Theobald the endearing failure Martin Dear; and Oli Chris, Dr Statham’s nemesis student, Boyce.

The series boasts a collection of award-winning writers: Victoria Pile, Robert Harley, James Henry, Stuart Kenworthy, Oriane Messina, Fay Rusling, Richard Preddy and Gary Howe.

  1. Ahh I used to love Green Wing - it was the highlight of my week! I recently started watching the whole two series again and I can say with full confidence it has once again become the week's highlight! But where are the forums?! I miss you guys!

  3. Just saw this show for the first time on Hulu. We don't get programs like this in the U.S. I have spent the last weekend watching both series during any and all free time I could scrape up. Wow. I was transfixed as this surreal yet strangely realistic group of people lived out 18 episodes of the best television I've seen in a very long time. While I would have happily sat through a 3rd season, I have no complaints. This complete (and completely strange) story left me feeling satisfied, yet sad that I would see no more of these people's lives. Watching Joanna and Dr Statham turn into hapless versions of Bonnie and Clyde left me in...uh, stitches. I can only imagine that when this aired 5 years ago fans waited impatiently for each week's installment. Bravo to the writers and cast of this marvelous show.

  4. This programme is and was part of the reason I have choosen to become involved in T.V--Its just that good. I half wish Green Wing had carried on for a series 3 but I don't think it would have worked since at the end of it you still want more, more of the stories, more of the characters, more of the laughs. It stopped at it's peak (just like Fawlty Towers)and will always be remebered the better for that, lettting us the audince live in eternal hope they will be back.

  5. Channel 4 show some great comedies, Green Wing, Black Books and Teachers for example, all firm favourites and then they just disappear! I don't think they realise that comedy like this (although varied) is appreciated so much.

  6. I really wish that channel 4 had shown the alternative ending and then made a series 3. I really enjoyed watching Green Wing and was saddened when i found out that they were not making a series 3 and that they could of. I really wish that the character of Mac wasn't dying but that can't be changed as, because there is no series 3 they cannot make up an excuse for him to carry on living. I really really really wish that there was a series 3, but there isn't.
