Series 1 Summary
Looking for exclusive access to celebs and their wardrobes? Insider access to top end fashion and the best designers on the block? Trying to achieve 'that' look for less? Well look no further than the fashion juggernaut that is Gok's Fashion Fix.
A brand new magazine series that rips the label off fashion to prove you don't need to spend a fortune to look fabulous, presented by Gok Wan and Alexa Chung. In front of a studio audience, Gok takes on designer clothes chosen by the most powerful buyers in the fashion business with a collection he's sourced entirely from the high street. In a catwalk face-off the audience vote on which is the best collection.
Along the way Gok teaches viewers everything they need to know about what to wear this summer and how to wear it. Alexa Chung road tests the fashions we love: this week she puts high heels through their paces in the ultimate stiletto race.
Each week Gok rummages through the drawers of celebrities in search of dirty laundry and style secrets, including film legend Joan Collins, former Spice Girl Geri Halliwell, Hollywood starlet Mischa Barton and Kelly Osbourne. Gok also launches a nationwide search for a style icon, which will culminate in a grand finale to crown the UK's Most Stylish Person, with his first stop in Liverpool.
Alexa takes a sneaky peek inside the lives of the kings - and queens - of designer fashion. This week she samples the lavish lifestyle of red carpet designer Roberto Cavalli at his castle in Florence. Karl Lagerfeld of Chanel, Jean Paul Gaultier, Christian Lacroix, Luella and Missoni are lined up for future shows.
Explosive summer brights were the theme when presenter Gok Wan took on the might of the designer labels in a catwalk face-off. Pitted against the most powerful buyers in the fashion business; they present clothes from A-list designers and an unlimited budget while Gok rustled up his collection from the high street at a maximum of £200 per outfit.
Also on the show, fashionista Alexa Chung roadtested the latest trends in swimwear. The season's super-skimpy costumes were enough to strike fear into any woman, so how wearable are the latest cut-out, plunging monokinis, and what kind of tan lines will they give you?
Gok went to St Tropez to shop with the queen of shoulder pads, Dynasty legend Joan Collins. Joan's fashion knowledge was tested in the studio: could she spot a bargain?
Alexa presented a fashion insider report as she met the designers behind the celebrity labels as Gok continued his search for a style icon when his travelling catwalk roadshow hit the UK's city streets.
The Sex and the City girls provided the inspiration for the catwalk theme this week. Gok Wan took on the might of the designer labels in a catwalk face-off; pitting himself against the most powerful buyers in the fashion business to present clothes Sarah J-P would be proud to wear with a high street budget £200 per outfit. It's a tough challenge, but Gok believed that by customising high street clobber and with the right styling know-how, anyone can transform a basic outfit into a jaw-dropping style statement. Did the studio audience agree when it cames to the final catwalk showdown?
Fashionista Alexa Chung managed to score a ticket and backstage access to one of the most exclusive events in the fashion calendar: Chanel's haute couture collection for autumn/ winter 2008. Not only that, but she persuaded the notoriously publicity shy Karl Lagerfeld to open the doors to his Rue Cambon apartment - once the residence of Coco Chanel - to share his private sketches with her. Alexa then lives out every girl's dream, raiding the rails of Chanel's flagship store! Can she cut it as a Parisienne chic chick?
Alexa also road-tested the fibre making a fashion come back: polyester. No longer a scratchy sweat-inducing material, it's quietly undergone a sly rehabilitation, aided by Japense design mavericks Rei Kawakubo of Commes des Garcons and Issey Miyake. The effect has of course filtered through to the high street. Alexa Chung's fleet of flight attendants, who wear polyester every day, put the latest designs to the test.
Meanwhile, Gok spent an afternoon with glamorous goth Kelly Osbourne and her delicious designer wardrobe. Plus, there's a game of 'squeeze into these' - when one lucky audience member us challenged to squeeze into one of Kelly's much loved dresses in ten seconds to win a chance to walk away with it. Gok also continues his search for a style icon as his travelling catwalk roadshow hits the UK's city streets.
The toughest challenge in any woman's fashion calendar is what to wear on holiday and this episode's theme was Life's a Beach. How can you go effortlessly from poolside to beach bar, without breaking into a styling sweat? Gok revealed the secrets to holiday glamour on a high street budget and again took on the most powerful buyers in the fashion business. Whilst the buyers had a limitless budget and designer labels galore, Gok's had only £200 per outfit. Which holiday look did the studio audience choose when it came to the final catwalk showdown?
Alexa Chung packed her knitting needles and headed to Italy to meet the woman behind the multi-coloured knits of Missoni. And Gok went on an exclusive shopping trip to Paris with fashionista and former OC star Mischa Barton. When Gok rummaged in her wardrobe, did he find fashion heaven or fashion hell?
Gok worked nine to five to scour the high street for this episode's working girl theme. Gok was up against an executive class collection and a sky's-the-limit budget sourced by the most powerful buyers in British fashion. But it was down to the audience to vote for the collection they preferred. Did they go for Gok's hard-working collection, or did they think designer looks are just the business?
Plus Gok shopped with pint-sized pop princess Dannii Minogue to discover if she had the fashion x-factor, and delved into her dirty laundry to reveal if she's got a thing for fashion faux pas. And Gok continues his search for a UK style icon as his travelling catwalk roadshow heads to Newcastle in search of those with individual flair and a passion for fashion.
This episode finds Gok in the mood for a big night out, creating glamorous party-girl outfits sourced from the high street. While four fashionistas got to splash endless amounts of cash on designer labels, Gok was limited to a budget of just £800 to create four complete party girl looks.
With a hectic daily schedule sapping her shopping time Gok took Lorraine Kelly on a speedy shopping spree and revealed her early morning wardrobe disasters when he riffled through her dirty laundry. Gok hit the Cardiff streets to check out what Wales have to offer in the style stakes for his Street Style Icon competition. And fashion insider Alexa Chung got a fashion exclusive with an interview with French fashion designer Christian Lacroix.
Red carpet glamour is this episode's theme with sultan of style Gok Wan determined to prove you can look fabulous without spending a fortune. In the designer corner, four of the most powerful buyers in the fashion industry call in their favourite designer names to create knock-out glamorous creations. In the high street corner, with a budget of just £200 per outfit and a bag of his best tricks of the trade, Gok aims to get the audience to vote high street instead of high price.
One celeb who's done more red carpet events than most is one of pop's most enduring and stylish singing sensations, Lulu. Gok rummaged through her party wardrobe to dig up some dirty laundry from her fashion past.
Fashion insider Alexa Chung visited Paris to meet enfant terrible of fashion Jean Paul Gaultier. And the hunt for the most stylish person in Britain continued as Gok hit Brighton in search of another finalist for his UK Street Style Icon competition.
For the last time this series Gok battled against four label-loving fashionistas to prove that you don't have to clear out your wallet to have a fabulous wardrobe by styling the best trends from autumn/ winter 2008. While the four fashionistas dished out lots of dosh on designer labels, Gok had £800 to create four inspirational looks for the fall.
Fellow brummie, songstress and model-mum Jamelia caught up with Gok in her hometown of Birmingham for a spot of retail therapy and to talk designer shoes, while Gok checked out her show-stopping frocks in this week's Dirty Laundry.
And after seven weeks touring the country in search of a style icon, Gok's road trip came to an end whe eight finalists, each with very different, individual looks battled it out to be crowned Street Style Icon of the Year.
