Learn some tips from fashion icons with bags of style!

1. Embrace your body shape.
"Cultivate your curves - they may be dangerous but they won't be avoided."
Mae West (1893-1980), Actress and sex symbol

2. Choose your own palette.
"The best colour in the whole world is the one that looks good on you!"
Coco Chanel (1883-1971), Designer

3. Forget 'normal'.
"I don't like standard beauty - there is no beauty without strangeness."
Karl Lagerfeld, Artist and Designer

4. Dress for yourself.
"I never think of myself as an icon. I just do my thing."
Audrey Hepburn (1929-1993), Actress

5. Work with what you’ve got.
"I've never really had a waist. My silhouette is very straight, up and down. But I have learned to give myself a bit of a waist by optical illusions; for this, bring on the belts."
Twiggy, Supermodel

6. Be chic, not trendy.
"Fashions fade, style is eternal."
Yves Saint-Laurent (1936-2008), Designer

7. Dress for success.
"You can have anything you want in life if you dress for it."
Edith Head (1897-1981), Oscar-winning costumier

8. Be creative.
"I see fashion as an artistic expression of how you adorn yourself. There's no lie in it."
Patricia Field, Stylist, Sex and the City

9. Wear the clothes - don’t let the clothes wear you.
"The dress must not hang on the body but follow its lines. It must accompany its wearer and when a woman smiles, her dress should smile with her."
Madeleine Vionnet (1876-1975), Designer

10. Enjoy yourself!
"I have a dress-up chest at home. I love to create a fantasy."
Kate Moss, supermodel

  2. Hi Gok. I love your programme and take in all the advice you give about pear-shaped figures. I'm 5' 6".I have a long neck, narrow sloping shoulders, 34DD bust, small waist but large hips and thighs. My problem is that I can't get jeans or skirts to fit properly; when they fit on the hip, they're too big in the waist; even those with some elasticity are still too big on the hip and baggy at the back (I have a low slung bum!).Since reaching 64 and putting on wait (I'm 10st 12lb) I've also developed a bit of a tummy, whereas I was always proud to have a flat one. I am long waisted and even dresses tend to have the waist a bit high for me. I would love to wear pencil skirts but always have a gap at the waist so can't wear a top tucked in. Have you any suggestions, please?

  8. Hey Gok! First of all i'd just like to say that i love your programme and i watch it every week with my mum. I think its amazing that you bring such joy to people by showing them how to dress and acessorize. I've always loved the high street and your show has re-stored my faith in looking good. One thing id like to know is, how to become more confident wearing dresses and skirts. I can be quite girly and somedays not, depending on my mood. Id like to know what outfits are great for day wear but still make an impression. Im an 8/10 and im nearlly sixteen years old. All the best, keep sharing your Gok magic! Love Jess x

  11. Hello Gok,I enjoy your programmes and the fact that you please the people you work with and not bully them and make them look really good. My son is getting married at the end of December and I have no dress sense. I usually wear any old clothes like t shirt and jeans. Since my husband died last year I have not had my hair cut so I am begining to look like a mad woman. I spend most of my time in the garden or building my home so there is no reason for dressing up or is there? If you could help me I would be very greatful and I think there would be lots of releived family members. They tell me it doesn't matter what I wear but I think they are just being kind. Thankyou Susan

  17. Dear Gok My wonderful mother has been through the mill in her life and after losing my brother she seemed to comfort eat and now at 67 she's finding it hard to shed the pounds and feels as though she has no style with her clothing. I love how you change peoples lives on your show and re style them. Can you do this for my mum? She feels as though her clothing is old and makes her look dumpy. I think some of her stuff looks good but she needs to get out the black and get into some colour. I think she's a young looking 67 and would love you to help her. She's my best friend and I love her dearly. PLEASE HELP Thank you x Feona Donald

  18. Dear Gok, I'd love to be able to view clips of programmes on the internet but when I try from Gibraltar, where I live, it is not possible! I am very interested in the programme on last night which included head scarves, as I am about to start chemo treatment on June 15th and will be sporting scarves and hats from now on! Let me know how to find some tips on this and all the best with your show which is great fun and inspirational. Marisa,x
