Gok's Clothes RoadShow
About the Show
The RoadShow is coming to town, offering makeovers, styling masterclasses, and a pop-up catwalk for the all-important fashion face-off
Series 1 Summary
Sultan of Style Gok Wan returns to fashion fix the nation. But this time he's taking his show on the road as Gok's Clothes RoadShow visits towns and cities all over the UK, teaching women to best dress for their shape.
Episode 1 - Liverpool
The new series launches in Liverpool, where Gok has seven days to build a catwalk in the centre of town, present a body-shape masterclass to hundreds of local lasses and organise multiple makeovers.
Four social workers who are too busy looking after other people to spend time on themselves get the Gok treatment. But they don't know they'll be unveiling their glamorous new style to thousands of Liverpudlians on Gok's catwalk.
But that's not Gok's only challenge. His nemesis, designer diva Brix Smith-Start, is also in town to take part in the high street versus high-end catwalk face-off.
For the first time, Gok is inviting members of the public backstage to share his tricks of the trade, as he proves you don't need to spend a fortune to look fabulous.
Meanwhile, Brix travels the UK to source the very best British-made designer items. This week, she travels to South Shields to see how the classic Barbour jacket is made.
Episode 2 - Harrogate
Gok gives four female posties in Harrogate a makeover.
Postal workers Rachel (37), Wendy (41) , Melanie (40) and Jennie (33) work long shifts in the local sorting office, and wearing a unisex uniform all day has dampened their confidence when it comes to looking feminine. Gok makes a special delivery and teaches them how to shop for their shape, before challenging them to deliver a first-class performance by opening his catwalk show in front of thousands of members of the public.
The high street versus high-end catwalk showdown continues as Gok and designer queen Brix Smith-Start go head to head in the fashion face-off. While Gok shows the Harrogate public you don't need to spend a fortune to look fabulous, Brix and her pedigree chums head off in search of the perfect catwalk statement piece. Brix's search takes her to Oxford, home of the oldest traditional British hatters, Christys'.
Episode 3 - Leeds
Gok's sets about rescuing three detectives guilty of committing crimes against fashion.
The RoadShow is in Leeds for a week-long lesson to teach the locals everything they need to know about how to shop for their shape, also providing style secrets and advice on how to look fabulous without spending a fortune.
In his bid to style the entire nation, Gok is searching out women who are too busy looking after other people to find time for themselves. With a uniform of jeans, hoodies and baseball caps, detectives Emma (32), Angie (41) and Delia (31) fit the bill.
A week-long undercover operation involving Gok's hair, make-up and styling team results in three arresting transformations, with the evidence revealed in a catwalk extravaganza for family and friends.
But dressing the detectives is only half of Gok's job - he and label luvvie Brix Smith-Start must battle it out in the `High Street vs Designer' fashion face-off. While Gok prepares his High Street looks by sharing his styling tricks in front of members of the public, Brix heads to the East End of London to see how the luxury brand Gina hand-make their iconic shoes.
Will the Leeds voting public opt for Brix's high end, high budget collection, or will Gok's high-street equivalents be triumphant?
Episode 4 - Nottingham
Gok helps three racecourse workers in Nottingham rediscover their feminine figures.
Gok rides to the rescue of Helen (38), Vicky (34) and Sarah (24), who are too busy looking after horses and family to find time for themselves. So it's out with their manly jodhpurs and polo shirts, and in with a ultra-glamorous look to show off their feminine figures.
The style battle between high street and designer continues as Gok goes up against designer diva Brix Smith-Start in the catwalk showdown. And Brix heads to the Scottish Highlands to see how the iconic - and currently very fashionable - kilt is made.
Episode 5 - Birmingham
Gok meets three busy working mums, Kate (38), Georgina (32) and Debbie (42), who are so caught up juggling family life with their careers as solicitors that they're guilty of breaking every fashion rule in the book. And Brix Smith-Start heads to Dents in Wiltshire in search of a pair of hand-crafted gloves.
Episode 6 - Bristol
Gok is in Bristol, where he meets three mental health workers whose careers caring for others has left them little time to care for themselves.
As avid cyclers, Becky (32), Tors (33) and Sarah (37) have ditched fashion in favour of bike helmets and high-visibility jackets. It's Gok's job to prize these bikers out of their tomboy threads and turn them into glamorous girls about town.
And Brix Smith-Start heads to the world's oldest jewellery house, Garrard in Bond Street, in search of a diamond cuff worth £85,000.
Episode 7 - Cardiff
As Gok's Clothes RoadShow is nearing the end of its nationwide tour, Gok heads to Wales to get the women of Cardiff looking great no matter the size of their waists or wallets.
First in line for the Gok treatment are sports-mad sisters Ceri (36) and Dawn (34) and their team mate Sam (43) who spend most their lives in lycra. If these ladies aren't at work, they're on the hockey pitch in their sports kits, so Gok will have to be on top of his game to transform these fitness fanatics into fashionable women about town.
And Gok goes head-to-head once again with feisty fashionista Brix Smith-Start in the High Street vs Designer catwalk. While Gok attempts to prove you don't have to spend a fortune to look fabulous, Brix showcases the best that designer brands have to offer, and travels to Sudbury in Suffolk to visit the home of Britain's silk making industry. With the score currently at three all, there's all to play for in this penultimate show.
Staged in Cardiff's magnificent Millennium Centre, it's sure to be one of the most dynamic fashion face-offs so far.
Episode 8 - London
The RoadShow lands in London for a catwalk finale to remember.
Gok helps working mums Lisa (39), Karen (45) and Jenny (40) to get a makeover. The three women are all employed on the Kings Cross Redevelopment Programme, and are so busy juggling family life with full-time jobs that their style has been left well and truly behind.
Brix Smith-Start hopes to prove designer fashion is best by drafting in a show-stopping Best of British floor-length gown by top designer Matthew Williamson.
Episode 9 - West Bromwich - Revisit
Gok Wan makes a return visit to West Bromwich to see if the town has taken his tips on board.
He catches up with 36-year-old accountant and mother-of-two Mandy, the recipient of his special makeover, whose tomboy wardrobe was dominated by jeans and hideous hoodies.
Episode 10 - Wrexham - Revisit
Gok Wan makes a return visit to Wrexham one year on, to see if the town has taken his tips on board. Will they remember how to shop less but wear more and do they still know the best way to dress for their shape?
He catches up with 37-year-old forestry school teacher Melanie Williams, the recipient of his special makeover, whose weary wardrobe featured every shade of the colour green.
Gok finds out if green goddess Melanie has ditched her favourite colour for good and branched out into wearing a more varied selection of hues.
Gok also goes head-to-head once again with feisty fashionista Brix Smith-Start in the High Street vs. Designer catwalk challenge.
While Gok will be attempting to prove you don't have to spend a fortune to look fabulous, Brix will showcase what the designer brands have to offer.
Among the different looks they put together for their catwalk clash are 'Romantic Gypsy' and 'Glam Warrior'.
