  2. The time is 10:27 on Tuesday 28th July. I have been attempting to play Gerry Robinson's episode 3 (received his picture) but recording failed to start. After several more attempts, which all failed, I tried episode 2. Same result. Gave up.

  3. I have a lot of respect for Gerry Robinson, and this series is an absolute must for anyone and everyone contemplating starting their own business. As somebody who is in business personally I can honestly say that there's no better time than a recession to start up - and this series is as good as any expensive management seminar. Sir Gerry's experience and insight is worth more than I could ever afford to pay - yet the concepts ("find out what the market needs, produce to satisfy that market, sell to that market at a profit and then repeat the cycle in new markets") are univerally fundamental. I'm heartened to see his support for true craftsmanship, orginality and even heritage. Despite Thatcher trying to con us into believing that we should shift from being a manufacturing-led economy to a service economy (I never agreed then and I don't agree now), the businesses featured in this series so far are proof that we're still capable of doing what we do best. The trouble is that (as they have most scandalously demonstrated of late with their new-found contempt of their own customer base) the main banks are too stupid and short-sighted to see this. Keep up the good work, Gerry; you're an inspiration to every entrepreneur and would-be entrepreneur up and down the land! It won't happen if people don't make it happen - so make it happen folks!

  4. Good to see recognition that Britain needs its` manufacturing base. Is this the end of the service based economy?

  5. An excellent series if only we had more Sir Gerry's who understand how important it is to have a strong manufacturing base in the UK. We need people like him running this country. Television at its best.

  6. It's fantastic to see my grandad's circular saw - a JJ Smith's 20" Turret Saw probably supplied in the early 50s, operating and surviving the CNC revolution, in HJ Berry in 2009.....Kate Smith (Liverpool)

  7. I am so pleased to have seen Sir Gerry making an excellent decision in backing H J Berry's. Without his help I fear for the future of both the business and the community of Chipping as a whole. I could see that Andrew has a huge weight on his shoulders, a weight that had been placed there from birth, and with this invaluable help it will allow him, the business and the community to breathe and grow. Well Done and Good Luck for the future!
