Describe your amazing space…
Rusty the Tin Tent is a 40ft hi-cube shipping container converted into a unique glamping holiday experience.
What inspired you to build it?
It was the opportunity to design something totally unique for our glamping business.
What kind of planning permissions did you need?
We had planning for three small-footprint, removable holiday lets.
How long did the whole project take?
What was your budget – did you go over it?
It was £20,000 but went over by £2000.
- Finally getting the container into the field and on its pads.
- The final finished result. Lows...The container being blown off its pads the day after in the gales!Would you have changed anything you did? We’d have put in new grey sliding doors instead of the white ex-showroom doors.Things you wished you had known before you started? The huge amount of welding involved!Top tips for other people embarking on a similar journey?
- Keep it simple.
- Be flexible.
- Write your own brief, think about what or who is it for and how you want it to look and feel.
- Keep a notebook for sketches and ideas.
