Stephen Mangan tell us about not having eight testicles, and reveals who he'd have on his books if he was an agent.
What is your top British comedic influence?
Peter Sellers
What was the last piece of music you bought?
I didn't buy it but I was given it, does that count? It's by a woman called Ane Brun, who's Norwegian but lives in Sweden.
Did she give it to you personally?
She was on Loose Ends, the Radio 4 programme on Saturdays, and she was playing.
Have you listened to it yet?
I have, it's really good, I'm slightly in love with her voice.
What's your best way to spend a Sunday?
Err, for my son to sleep in until about 8.30am, rather than 6.30am, and come running in, make breakfast for me... He's only 15-months-old so I don't know how he's going to do that, but he will on a perfect Sunday. Then go to watch Spurs beat Arsenal 16 - nil, then go out for a meal with some mates then go and see a film. Oh and beat Claudia Winkleman and Cleo Roccas at poker!
How long ago did you Google yourself?
That is a good question.
Only honest answers...
Probably about 3 or 4 weeks ago.
And were you pleased or disappointed?
I was looking to see if I was on Google because we did a play in the last year which is going to Broadway so I Googled "Stephen Mangan, The Norman Conquests" and "New York" to see if there was any press or publicity about it - there wasn't!
Are you going to New York with it?
Yes. I know - I can't believe my luck. Isn't that exciting? It's one of the biggest ambitions of my life to do it and I'm getting to do it.
Going back to Free Agents, if you were a real agent who would you want on your books?
(Sighs, um...)
If you could have anyone - Anthony Head??
Err, I think I'd have Julian Rhind-Tutt and make them work together (laughs). No who would I have, err, I'd have Kate Winslet, you can't go wrong with Kate - she's HOT at the moment. She won a BAFTA you know...
What's been the favourite piece of work you've done so far?
In my whole life?
Yes.
Oh, Green Wing.
And your favourite to watch as well?
Green Wing on the TV, on the radio, I did a thing called Jack Rosenthal's Last Act, which was his autobiography dramatised and Jack Rosenthal was a great TV writer as you know and also a 70-year-old Mancunian. I think it was one of my finest bits of work to make me sound like a 70-year-old Mancunian – I was quite pleased with that.
Can you give us a little bit now?
No I can't do that - (laughs).
As you've now become a success - what's the most expensive item you've bought?
Apart from a house?
Yes
A classic Mercedes
Which one?
A 350SL
If you had to impress someone you've just met with a number in your phone, who would you show them?
Um, I have got Dr Who's and James Bond's number in my phone.
Which Doctor?
The current Doctor, David Tennant - that's not bad, Dr Who and James Bond... if you'd have told me that when I was an 8-year-old, I'd have shit myself!
Give us a fact that no-one would know about Stephen
About me?
Yes.
I have eight testicles... No I don't. Err, I don't know if people would know about this - I was Young Filmmaker of the Year on Screen Test in 1981.
Crikey
Yeah.
