Find Me a Family

Series 1 | Episode 3 | Find Me A Family

John and Anthony

Same-sex couple, John, 56, and Anthony, 38, want to become parents, and have decided that adoption is the way for them. Like the majority of adopters, they would like to adopt a baby, but have enrolled on a project designed to get them to consider adopting other kinds of children.

When project leader David Akinsanya realises that they might consider children with disabilities, he challenges them to care for a child for a weekend - a child with similar needs to the many kids in care who struggle to find homes. John and Anthony say they are open to most of the challenges of adopting, but how will any child fit into their busy lives when they both work full-time and have 10 horses to look after?

  5. Good luck to both of you. Do not underestimate yourselves! I think you would make great parents for any child that comes along. A child with disabilities may be hard work but I think you could do it, and I think the fact you's have horses would really help them. I am a teenager and if it was possible to adopt me I would be proud to tell people you were my dad's. Just remember that it is taking so long only to find you the perfect member of your new family, so don’t despair. I really hope you get what you want and good luck :) x

  6. I wept buckets watching this programme in particular. I really felt for John and Antony as they had so many rejections. I hope that your dream comes true. I know that if anything had happened to my husband and I, we would have welcomed the opportunity for our children, who are animal mad to have gone to your home. You are both such caring people. Good luck.

  7. Completely inspiring. They are so loving and patient that I wish they'd adopt me (even though I'm 29)!

  8. I think you will both make great dads but I think your under estimating your abilities! You were both fantastic with the young girl who stayed and you would get used to the medication routine. I think you should both go for a child with additional needs yes it will be difficult at first but it's going to be that anyway. The waiting is hard - I waited 3yrs on my son who arrived at 2.5 with severe delayed development and now two yrs on is an average loving, full of energy 5yr old. Good luck!

  9. What a delightful couple John & Anthony are - I would choose them to adopt ME as I loved them & the horses & the dogs, but unfortunately I'm on the old side : 51 !! Seriously, I cried throughout the programme & please send them best wishes on their journey. I am a single adopter; my daughter was born in China. I've learned & loved so much along the way. David Akinsanya is an inspirational humanitarian; motivated, articulate, unafraid & dead handsome. Please return to the families in your series & let us know where/how they are in 1/2/3 years. Do you rsvp? Thank you, Gabrielle Jordan
