Drawing on a rich radio background, presenting shows on Kiss 100, BRMB, Magic, Hallam FM, BBC local stations, Century and Kerrang!, Tim has earned his place as the most internationally awarded radio presenter in the UK today.
He has picked up nine New York Radio Awards (including six golds), and was awarded both EMAP's most prestigious accolade, 'The Entertainment Award', and Sony's 'Speech Broadcaster of the Year'. In May 2008, he was awarded 'Presenter of the Year' by the British Radio Industry. Tim now presents a new radio show on Absolute Radio for Friday and Saturday nights.
For TV, Tim is the face of Five's Fifth Gear and is well-known for his role as 'Mr Inappropriate' on Channel 4’s Balls of Steel. He has presented on More 4's The Last Word and ITV1's Pulling Power. He appeared on Virgin Media's ....And Proud, and also worked on The Vault for ITV1.
Tim claims that becoming a father of two daughters and being married to a strong woman (Hayley, who, famously, sold his Lotus Esprit for 50p) has most definitely had a positive effect on his career, but until recently his lifestyle left a lot to be desired. 'I was drinking every weeknight with mates, and at the weekends with my wife,' says Tim. 'It was part of my regular routine to eat junk food – pizzas and Chinese takeaways every day. It was a very sociable life, which was great fun, but I was eating and drinking shit, really. I had no time for exercise because I was too busy socialising.'
'My dad's a marathon runner and both my parents are exceedingly fit,' adds Tim. 'I rebelled - I couldn't be arsed. The thing is, if you hang around with people who eat and drink a lot and don’t exercise, you feel like that justifies it.'
But Extreme Male Beauty has come along at just the right time for Tim, who's been having concerns about his health and appearance for some time. 'For years people have said to me, "You have a very beautiful wife – how did you manage that?" Then, as you get into your thirties, it starts to take you the whole weekend to recover from a big Friday night. It's a denial thing – I've been trying to be the young guy who could do what he wanted and get away with it, but that isn't really the case any more.'
So can Tim handle a gruelling new fitness regime and diet, and turn himself from ageing superslob into buff young superman? He's about to find out…
