Jonny Lee Miler was born on the 15th November 1972 in Kingston-upon-Thames, the grandson of Bernard Lee, who played 'M' in the early James Bond films.

After early work with the National Youth Music Theatre, he made his acting debut in the television adaptation of Mansfield Park, which he then followed with minor appearances in such long-running dramas as Keeping Up Appearances, Inspector Morse and Casualty.

A recurring part as Jonathan Hewitt in EastEnders led to his first significant leading role, in Iain Softley's teen action film Hackers, where he met and married co-star Angelina Jolie.

After his winning performance in Trainspotting, he starred in Alan Rudolph's Afterglow and Regeneration directed by Gillies Mackinnon. He reunited with his Trainspotting co-star Robert Carlyle for Plunkett and Macleane directed by Ridley Scott’s son Jake Scott. He revisited Mansfield Park in 1999, this time as the upright and gentle Edmund Bertram, before starring in Iain Banks adaptation Complicity directed by Gavin Millar.

Lee Miller starred in Chaucer's ‘The Pardoner's Tale’ for the BBC and drama ‘Byron’ in 2003.
