Double Your House for Half the Money
About the Show
Sarah Beeny helps people achieve their property dreams without breaking the bank
Series 3 Summary
Property prices are rising fast. With the average cost of trading up from a three to a four-bed house close to £150k, Sarah Beeny returns with the show about people making their homes bigger and better for a fraction of the cost of moving.
The series also offers information on the latest products and technology and up-to-the-minute design and building innovations.
Episode 1 - Great Baddow, Essex and Great Bowden, Leicestershire
Ian and Claire want to double the size of their four-bed property and make it a multi-generational home with separate floors for their parents, their children and themselves.
Sarah Beeny also meets Paul and Mimi, who moved away from London after the riots to settle in Great Bowden, Leicestershire, where they hope to makeover their 60s property into a stunning rural home.
Episode 2 - Sussex Coast and Buckinghamshire
On the beautiful Sussex coast, Sarah meets Paul and Ryan, who dream of a modern super-stylish home with spectacular views of the sea. Unfortunately the only house they could afford is a small bungalow... with no views at all.
The couple plan to create their dream home themselves, using their life savings, including a cutting-edge kitchen and a whole new floor with views across the sea and the countryside.
In the picturesque Buckinghamshire village of Great Missenden, Sarah meets Drachan and Susan, who want to transform their drab 1950s house.
Episode 3 - Kent
Sarah meets Tabitha and Paul, who want to enlarge their small cottage in Kent, and Jim and Elaine, who need to refurb their 60s semi for their growing family.
Tabitha and Paul need more space for their young family, but blending the old with the new is the dream. With both an extension and restoration project on their hands, the couple face a challenging build.
Jim and Elaine want to update their uninspiring 1960s semi on a tiny budget and a very specific timescale.
Episode 4 - Sheffield
Sarah meets Russ and Jen Hunt in Sheffield, who want a larger family. Unfortunately, their new-build is already bursting with one child and unable to afford the move to a larger home, they embark on their first extension.
In the village of Radlett, Sarah also meets Adam and Laura Margolis and their two children. The family sold their four-bed house and bought a bungalow after Adam, who has Multiple Sclerosis, found climbing the stairs impossible.
They now face the challenge of adapting the property to make it more accessible, while extending it to create a super stylish family home they can all enjoy.
Episode 5 - London and Wolverhampton
Sarah meets Candida Gubbins who wants to dig beneath her London flat to create a new floor. Basement extensions are always tricky, but for Candida, project managing her first build and using an inheritance from her mother means she's in for sleepless nights.
In Wolverhampton, Jay and Stephen want to bring Kardashian style to their extension. Although estate agents, the couple have never done a building project and at times their eyes are bigger than their wallets.
A new baby, a tight timescale plus a daily battle to keep the building site from invading their tiny living space - as well as trying to do a lot of the work themselves to keep within budget - means Sarah is worried whether they will manage to finish on time... if at all.
Episode 6 - Essex and Sheffield
Sarah meets Jamie and Shital, who have relocated from London to Sheffield and want to adapt their bungalow into a stylish home suitable for their needs - Shital has a rare genetic condition that confines her to a wheelchair and Jamie has cerebral palsy.
The new build must also work for Shital's disabled brother and elderly mother.
Sarah also meets a family extending their home, in Doddinghurst, a pretty rural village in Essex. The family plan to create a modern mansion for multi-generational living on a limited £150,000 budget.
Episode 7 - Leicestershire and Buckinghamshire
Sarah visits major renovation works battling to work out well during one of the wettest winters in history.
In Fleckney, Leicestershire, Sarah meets Steve and Hannah - first-time renovators who have recently bought a dilapidated 1970s property with the aim of extending, modernising and fixing from top-to-toe, to create a multi-purpose stylish house and home office.
In the desirable village of Great Missenden, Buckinghamshire, Sarah meets newlyweds James and Lucy, who have taken on the challenge of renovating and expanding an old two-bed semi into a four-bed country cottage.
Episode 8 - Milton Keynes and Cardiff
Sarah helps Russell and Karmel convert their tiny chocolate-box cottage near Milton Keynes. And In Cardiff, Sarah advises Darren and Tracey to follow their dream of open-plan living.
Episode 9 - Birmingham and Northamptonshire
In Birmingham, Paul and Andrea want to englarge their house with a double height extension. In Northamptonshire, Joe and Sarah plan a radical revamp of their 60s bungalow on a £75K budget. But what will the neighbours make of their modern, cutting edge design?
Episode 10 - Altrincham and Knebworth
In Altrincham, Greater Manchester, Sarah meets writer Marnie and husband Christian, who both dreamed of owning an art deco house, but could only afford a 1950s wreck. It is too small, too rundown and Marnie believes it is giving her health problems.
In Knebworth, Hertfordshire, Sarah meets Suzanne and Av, who need to enlarge their two up two down. But from the first day of the build problems arise.
