A compilation of the results we've received so far for the dentist survey related to the Dispatches programme The Truth About Your Dentist. Thanks to everyone who completed the survey.
Please note that this is a survey of visitors to the Dispatches website who have chosen to fill in the survey and the results should be interpreted as such: ie the survey is not a representative sample of the UK population.
Four in five respondents (82%) are registered with their dentist as an NHS patient, while one in five (18%) are private patients
Three quarters of respondents to our survey were aware of the NHS price brackets for treatments (76%)
Almost three quarters have had dental treatment in the past 12 months (72%). Among these, the most common treatments were:
- A scale and polish (67%); X-ray (62%); permanent fillings (46%), advice on prevention of dental/oral disease (35%) and hygiene treatment (21%)
Among those who have had treatment in the last 12 months, 2 in 5 (40%) were told if any of this was a private charge
Just over 1 in 3 respondents (37%) to the Dispatches survey said they had been told that private treatment would be better than NHS treatment
