Carlos has always wanted kids, but it probably wasn't good for the marriage to switch his wife's birth control for sugar pills.
It probably wasn't good for the marriage to have an affair with the woman that was supposed to be the surrogate mother of his child. And it wasn't good for the marriage when Gabrielle finally kicked him out.
The important thing about Carlos is that he acts on impulse. Sometimes that might mean beating up some gay men or having sex with the neighbourhood strumpet, but that's not to say Carlos can't be canny.
Why should he perform his community service when other perfectly capable candidates can be paid to do it for him?
Despite Gaby's marriage to Machiavellian politician Victor Lang, and Carlos' relationship with arch-bitch Edie Britt, the pair reunite and five years on are happily married with two children.
Good job Gaby forgave him for lying about his blindness, and all those extra-special massages!
