  2. why have you stopped repeating Countdown at 5 o'clock (approx) each morning?. I am out afternoons and usually tape Channel 5's film to watch on the evening ('cos there's usually not much decent TV on in the evenings now!) so I miss the afternoon transmission. L Then I would tape the early morning repeats so I could watch them over breakfast. Now I have either a miserable evening with nothing much to watch, or a miserable breakfast with nothing to watch .... lovely choice .... Please, please, please re-instate the repeats!!! Thank you.

  3. Claire Cooper's suggestion is an excellent one. Please give it serious consideration! Also, when Countdown goes on holiday I would love to see some old episodes (say, 10 or 15 years old!) to keep us addicts satisfied. I don't mind if they are in the middle of the night!

  4. WHY, OH WHY, DO YOU NOT HAVE A `HIGHEST LOSER` ROUND IN THE SERIES?. EARLIER THIS WEEK,LESLEY WAS AN OUTSTANDING CONTESTANT, SCORING 104 AND YET LOST THE GAME. IT SEEMS A SHAME THAT SUCH AN EXCELLENT COUNTDOWN PLAYER DOES NOT GET ANOTHER CHANCE TO COMPETE, AS GOOD CONTESTANTS MAKES FOR A MUCH BETTER PROGRAMME.MASTERMIND AND UNIVERSITY CHALLENGE BOTH RECALL THEIR HIGHEST SCORING LOSERS, WHY NOT COUNTDOWN. I AM CERTAIN LOTS OF PEOPLE WOULD RELISH SEEING LESLEY COMPETE AGAIN.

  8. Love the new Countdown [after the first couple of weeks when "Beginners nerves" were much in evidence]. Have a word in Jeff's ears and ask him to use his powers of persuasion to ask Keith Barron to appear in Dictionary Corner. He was ALWAYS wonderfully entertaining with his huge fund of funny stories - we really do miss him!!!! Keep up the good work.

  9. Why were there 2 Qs in Friday's programme ? Please would you let us know what the mix normally is i.e how many As, how many Ns etc as shown on Scrabble boxes. I thought there was only 1 Q. Also, only 1 J, 1 Z, 1 X. Is that correct ?

  10. I have always thought FILIGREE was spelt with two 'i's, not FILAGREE or are there two ways of spelling it?

  12. Countdown Addicts. One weekend when our daughter went away She asked if her two dogs at our house could stay naturally we said yes and were delighted and jolly To have her two dogs called Toby and Olly. They settled down well and everything was fine They were happy and content and did not pine At 3 am we were woken from a deep sleep by a voice And went downstairs to investigate as I had no choice Toby had jumped up on the sofa and with her big belly Had sat on the remote control and activated the telly So they were wide awake, not tired or yawning but watching a recording of "countdown" at 3 in the morning.

  13. Leslie Garret singing on Countdown ruined the weeks watching for me, I had to turn the sound off and almost missed the clue for the teaser. Although I do enjoy it when Jo Brand's on and the Dr bloke (sorry forgot your name!), a sprinkling a genuine humour always makes watching more fun.

  16. My husbnd and I enjoy Countdown and have done so for many years - particularly the Tea-time teasers. However earlier this week the solution word was DIGESTIF which we arrived at with that particular choice of letters. Surely the word should have been spelt DIGESTIVE as I spell it - and as it appears in my Dictionary (Collins) Can you ask Susie of D.Corner for a comment? thank you. Good luck with the programme.

  18. We think countdown with the present crew is much better than it was under any previous crew, as we found Carol's forced laugh a real put off. So keep up the good work and we will keep watching

  19. Great to have Lesley Garrett in Dictionary Corner. My wife and I enjoy Countdown with Jeff and Rachel. They've restored it to the best standards of Richard and Carol. Susie is as ever superb, tho' we can't always see why some words are in & some out. Love her origin of words spot. Don't understand press comments that ratings are down. Do they include C4 1 and repeats? I do think the old 4.30 / 4.15 start time was better, though. Keep up the good work.

  20. I have watching countdown for several years and find it keeps my brain active. Iam surprised to see after all the years the programme has been going contestants are still using paper to work on and not something more sustainable.Wouldnt white boards like schools do only much smaller. Think of all the trees that could have been saved. C austen.

  21. susie, i disagree with you not allowing the word bonders. it means a stone in masonry, which carries through a walls thickness, hence bonder can be pluralized to bonders. i taught bricklaying for 28 years, covering the subject

  22. Question for Suzie: Hi Suzie Do you know why, when some foreign (especially Arabic) words are transliterated into English, the "ck" sound (in, e.g., qanat, qibla, Qaeda, qat) is qritten as a "q" rather than a "k"? In English, after all, we always write "qu..." so it seems strange that we use "q" instead of "k" in these circumstances, although of course "suq" is often written as "souk". It's puzzled me for some time - an Iranian friend of mine says that there is more than one way to pronounce "k" in Arabic, but, but only one way of writing it. If this is true, it complicates matters even further!! Can you help? Mike Bryan

  23. Was I the only one watching Monday 5th, Oct.edition of Countdown, or is my tv and video picking up a different program. In the 2nd half (as Richard used to say)in the 3rd. letters game contestant Tony picked WYCEEIDL and a final consonant, Rachel picked the last consonant out and it was an E. It seems that no one on the program picked this up. I thought I had made a mistake so I taped the repeat program off sky 135, and it comfirmed that I saw what I thought, the last consonant was a vowel, re-run your tape and check, must be worth sending a Countdown mug, eh me duck...

  24. Hi. My brother Ian has a special birthday coming up. We both really love tuning into countdown most days and I know that he would really love to get a signed picture of Rachel for his birthday. I wonder if you could tell me how I can go about getting this for him. It would be most appreciated. Many thanks Sarah
