After more than a quarter of a century as the nation’s favourite number cruncher, Carol Vorderman has revealed her final conundrum.
It’s been 26 years, 59 series and more than 2750 episodes since Countdown opened the schedule for Channel 4’s first day of broadcasting.
Back in 1982, Carol was the first woman ever to appear on Channel 4. Before long, she was a household name.
Her final Countdown was broadcast on Friday 12 December 2008, and included a video presentation looking back over her time on the show.
It was an emotional farewell, made more poignant by footage of Richard Whiteley, her co-presenter for so many years, who died in 2005.
The studio audience included her family, and many former contestants from the show.
Channel 4 Director of Television Kevin Lygo has paid tribute to a broadcaster who has "made an enormous contribution to the success of Countdown over the last 25 years."
