Childhood is changing. Anxious parents fear that modern Britain has never been a more dangerous place for children. They believe the greatest danger lurks outside the home. But as some families go to increasingly extreme lengths to keep their children safe, this Cutting Edge documentary explores the effect this is having on modern childhood.

Adel won't allow his 13-year-old son to leave the school gates without him. Toni wants her children to be microchipped, so they can be tracked at all times. While at work, Jenny logs on to a nursery webcam to see how her little one is doing. Better to be safe than sorry, these self-confessed over-protective parents claim.

Yet they recognise the impact this has on their children's lives: the childhood freedom that they themselves enjoyed has been eroded, driven by a fear of 'stranger danger' and high-profile missing child cases. Modern children now live increasingly indoor lives and their modern adventures take place in the virtual worlds of the internet and games consoles.
