Mathieu has been making waves in the roller blading press over the last couple of years with his unique style, blending inline and parkour together and finding a new freedom on wheels.
However, at the age of 28, it has taken Matt's skating skills many years to be recognised by his peers and the international community. One reason for this is how unconventional his style really is.
Matt began skating for the first time around 17 years ago and has always enjoyed the rush of dangerous past times. He works as a professional stuntman and has appeared in numerous films, including the likes of 300 and Rollerball.
In his early 20s Mathieu began to grow tired of rolling and began to practice parkour. Learning with its founders in France, he picked up the intense mind-set that lies at the heart of PK, which is more akin to a martial art than an action sport.
A few years down the line, Matt took up inline up again, naturally applying the moves and flow he'd acquired in parkour to his skating. His creative mix of the two sports makes his skating impressive not only to his peers but also people outside his sport, something inline desperately needs after a long time on the back benches with low participation levels.
Despite becoming renowned at 28, middle age for any extreme sports pro, Matt's enthusiasm and energy are still infectious. Clean living, love and spirituality are central to the Canadian's outlook and he is utterly dedicated to his wife, to whom he has been married for two years.
Blading is a very small industry, and pros like Matt skate and promote skating pretty much for the love of the sport alone. However, the underground scene is running strong and Matt's skating is opening eyes as to the potential freedom and flow of movement that inline can offer.
