Danny MacAskill is an urban/street trials specialist

Danny burst into the limelight in 2009 when a video he made with his flatmate and fellow pro-rider, Dave Sowerby, became a huge YouTube hit, picking up over 300,000 views overnight.

The video now has nearly 24 million hits and a second video, again made with Dave, already has 6 million since going online last December.

Launched into the limelight, Danny was able to give up his day job as a mechanic and ride full time, picking up sponsors such as Red Bull along the way and starring in a VW commercial and a Doves music video.

Danny started riding back when he was a wee lad aged four on the Isle of Sky. The Island provided the perfect environment for the young MacAskill to hone his epic talent and skills and his love for riding never diminished. He's said: 'I started biking from a very young age for the same reason I still ride now - having so much fun!'

Aged 11, he started to ride and enter trials competitions and it was here that he picked up what would become the foundations of his riding style.

Being from 'North of Nowhere', Danny never picked up or tried BMX riding through his youth, instead he continued to ride trials as well as downhill and cross-country.

Aged 17, Danny moved to Avimore to work in a bike shop and around five years ago he picked up his first sponsor deal with Inspired, which enabled him to ride more frequently.

At 21, Danny moved again, this time to Edinburgh and it was here by applying his refined trials riding skills with his downhill madness that he developed his unique urban trials style.

Having taken the man out of the country, Danny looked to the city landscape for riding opportunities. Fusing together his skills and 'go-big' attitude from riding in the country with moves from the street and flatland BMX scenes, Danny is pushing the boundaries of what should be possible on a bicycle.

In 2009 he started 'The Clan' a cycle display team with a friend and this provided enough money for him to finally ride full-time. Around this time he'd also been putting together the video Inspired, shot in around six months with his flatmate.

Neither of them were prepared for the huge impact of the video, giving Danny huge success and fame worldwide.

However, the fame has not gone to the 25-year-old's head. As a sponsored pro, Danny now gets to spend much of his time living the dream and for him that means travelling around in his little motor home and riding every day, wherever he fancies.

Danny still regularly rides with The Clan and at exhibition events, and occasionally competes in trials competitions.

The Scott prefers nothing else than just going out and riding his bike in the great outdoors with creative freedom, away from fixed format contests and events.
