Married to Kevin, Scotty was born and raised in Mississippi before moving to New York and then to California to begin a life independent from his parents, who had struggled to accept his homosexuality.
Scotty, a chef by trade, first met Kevin when he came to Kevin's law firm as a key witness in an insurance fraud case. They later went on a handful of dates, but their relationship didn't get off to a great start and by end of series one Scotty and Kevin had gone their separate ways.
At the start of Series 2, Scotty went to Kevin for legal advice following his arrest for drink driving. Kevin was seeing someone else at the time (Jason - who was working abroad as a missionary) and so the two remained just friends. After Kevin offered to let a homeless and impoverished Scotty live at his flat however, the two finally got together, and by the end of Series 2, Scotty and Kevin were married!
Series 5 sees their plans to start a family further threatened, but the couple brave tragedy and frustration (and a case of infidelity) to emerge stronger.
