Joe Whedon was the loving house-husband to the iron-willed Sarah Walker. He featured as a regular character in Series 1 and as a recurring character in Series 2.
He has two children (Paige and Cooper) with Sarah, and one child (Gabriel) from a previous marriage.
In Series 1, Joe and Sarah were having problems with their marriage. It was pretty tense stuff, certainly not helped when Joe decided it was a good idea to kiss Rebecca - Sarah's half-sister. Come Series 2, it was divorce time for the unhappy couple.
While at first demanding full custody of their two children, Joe later relented and agreed to a joint arrangement after Paige ran away.
