Gender dysphoria is a condition where a person feels that they are trapped within a body of the wrong sex. People who have long-lasting, extreme cases of gender dysphoria are known as transsexuals. They may choose to live as a member of the opposite gender or to become one by surgery. If you would like more information or support in dealing with the condition, there are organisations that can help.

NB. The children and young people featured in Bodyshock all lived in the US. In the UK treatment for gender dysphoria is not available until over the age of 16.
