Antony Gormley: Making Space

This documentary follows acclaimed sculptor Antony Gormley as he makes work for his Blind Light exhibition at The Hayward. While Gormley is best known for his massive public works such as The Angel of the North and The Field, Making Space looks at him from a more intimate perspective.

Made over several months by filmmaker Beeban Kidron, a close friend of Gormley, this film explores the forces that compel Gormley to make ever more monumental and ambitious work.

Making Space shows how Gormley produces his art, from casting the moulds of his own body to working with the sometimes bewildering array of experts and collaborators that contribute to the centrepiece of Blind Light, where Gormley attempts to create a cloud in a box, into which visitors are invited to disappear.
