Annie's Bar

Series 1

Series Summary Annie's Bar

David Dashwood is a newly-elected Tory MP. Arriving to take up his seat, he has a lot to learn - especially from whip Terry Dunning. He soon discovers that the enemy aren't necessarily on the benches of the opposition.

This soap takes a wry look at the world of backbench MPs, and is set in and about an all-purpose drinking spot where MPs, journalists and 'strangers' can sup together. Instead of a street, a close or a square, its community is a particular corridor of offices, where a group of backbenchers from rival parties work cheek by jowl with one another.

Originally recorded in the week of its first transmission, each episode reflects a current political scene of the time. Annie's Bar is as much about politicians' private passions as it is about private members bills, less about party politics than late-night parties. There's subterfuge, scheming, double-dealing and even some sleaze.
