Andrew is 18, and he's the inquisitive and adventurous member of the crowd.
He loves to hunt with bow and arrow, and knows how to skin a deer, milk a cow by hand, go ice fishing and plough a field. Andrew has always heard terrible things about the 'real English' but is keen to find out how they differ from his own people for himself. He is drawn to England by his interest in the history and old building that he says he's 'read about in books'.
Andrew was home schooled by his father along with his 12 brothers and sisters. His family truly embrace the simple Amish lifestyle and have lived their lives very conscious of Amish values. Andrew is the main income earner in the family after his father, but turns all his earnings over to his father to manage. He will get 10% of his earnings back once he turns 21. He defines being Amish as: 'Living close to the land and living as clean as possible, and seeing God in nature as you work.'
Andrew's family used to be Old Order Amish. When he was 15 they moved from a strict Old Order Amish community to a more liberal New Order one. Since the family became New Order Amish, they have been allowed solar-, battery- and generator-powered electricity.
Andrew has never been west of the Mississippi and is keen to fly for the first time!
