Parvez Sharma's compassionate and moving exploration of Islam and homosexuality provides a refreshing look at a very sensitive and often taboo topic.
All of the men and women in the film are courageous and defiant about their sexuality, despite many having been beaten, raped, imprisoned and threatened with death.
The film took six years to make, much of the time spent by Sharma gaining the trust of those featured, who come from countries as diverse as Iraq, Egypt, Pakistan, Turkey and France.
And the title is quite deliberate; as Sharma says, 'A very loud minority has hijacked my religion and its pulpits. Jihad represents a life struggle... our struggle is one of faith and understanding.'
