9/11 The Five Year Anniversary

9/11: The Five Year Anniversary

Ground Zero

In the summer of 2001, French filmmakers Jules and Gedeon Naudet began making a documentary about a rookie New York firefighter. They followed Tony Benatatos as he began working for the Engine 7, Ladder 1 fire station in New York.

Their cameras were rolling on September 11 when the first aeroplane hit the World Trade Centre.

The Naudets filmed throughout 9/11 and the days afterwards from the fire department's perspective. Included in the documentary is footage of firefighters inside Tower One, moments before the second tower collapsed. The Emmy Award-winning documentary 9/11 would become one of the most talked about and viewed documentaries across the world.

As the five year memorial approaches in September 2006, the filmmakers revisit the firefighters featured in the documentary.
